Excellent pedal platform. 2XEL34 for about 35W. DNA from Fender Blackface.
FIRE AND WATER 15W 6V6
A custom build. 2 channels each with their own input. D-style ODS high gain channel and a Bassman/JTM type lower gain channel. Loop included.
AL-TTICUS, an 18W Atticus custom built for a guy named Al.
Two world class channels, high gain in the approximate are of the Asheville, and a Corona (Blackface) channel. Loud enough to gig with but great master volume enables good sound at low volumes. A GOOD effects loop. Pair of EL84’s in the output stage – DO NOT underestimate the EL84!
TAIPAN 50W 2 Channel
This was a custom build and is 50W from a pair of EL34’s. H channel is based on the Framus Cobra crunch (which is based on the Soldano SLO100) and the L channel is my very well regarded and tried and true Corona channel.
I have refined the Asheville over many years and it is just so RIGHT. IMO the circuit is more refined than the original SLO100. The one for a chap who was going build his own head cab.
HIEROPHANT
What is the Hierophant? It is a 100W M800+ beast. 4XEL34 in the output stage. And it does sound better than the Friedman BE100 it is sitting atop of.
STARRSHA 38W KT77
This was a custom build. 2 channels – one F Blackface (Corona) and one Bassman/JTM, and it turned out fabulous. On it’s way to Australia.
M800+ 18W EL84
Fabulous! World Class! Chimey clean tone to HEAVY tones. US$745
McClane 4XEL84
This one is the latest McClane circuit and sports 4XEL84 for about 35W. US$799 includes pine head cab and tubes.
Duophonic 6V6
The difference between the Duophonic and the Atticus is Duophonic is separate inputs and the Atticus is a channel switcher. This is a 20W 6V6 version, with a loop, and both channels are state of the art. Fender cleans and med-hi gain OD. US$745
Jube 30
Classic M tones from JCM up to the Silver Jubilee 2555X. Loop included. Tons of versatility.
Daisycutter 6L6
Consider this one a slightly simplified version of the Atticus. Covers A WHOLE LOT OF GROUND. Loop included, and this is a channel switcher. Somewhat related to the AFD, this one has shared tonestack though, whereas the AFD has separate tonestacks for each channel.
Asheville 60
Another example of the exemplary Asheville circuit and this one with 4X6L6’s that are lightly driven resulting in the tubes lasting many years. The 1-2-3 control makes it very flexible, as does the bright control.
Atticus 35
The very tried and true 2 channel Atticus. Both channels world class. Pair of 6L6’s in the output stage. Loop, and remember the Atticus is a channel switcher whereas the Duophonic typically has 2 inputs.
Asheville 18W
The Asheville gets it DNA from the Soldano SLO100 and I have built many! This one has a pair of EL84’s for 18W. Has a loop. Loud enough for gigs, master volume works superbly so it still sounds good at low levels. I think the Asheville circuit is so refined now, it IS better than the SOLDANO – the 1.2.3 control makes it very versatile.
AFD 35
A channel switcher with 2 superb M-style channels. One is crunchy/med gain and the other is med/high gain. A pair of 6L6’s in the output stage for about 35W. Loop, separate tonestacks for each channel. Would love to do another one.
Blackwater 18W
I was running my Savage pedal into this one and was blown away. Excellent clean amp and also a great pedal platform. Almost the same as the Rocinante just slightly different tone control
HRM 35
What does HRM stand for? Hot rodded Marshall? Hot Rubber Monkey? This was a custom of my HRM (Harem) which is based on the D-style Overdrive Special. Custom absolutely loves it and tells me everytime he sees me or talks to me. I am not a fan of the hanging tubes, my preference by far is Marshall style.
Jube 30
Latest single channel Jube 30 (DNA from the Silver Jubilee)
Atticus 6L6
Channel switcher, latest H channel is related to the Asheville/M800+ and L channel is related to the Corona/McClane. Loop, about 35W from a pair of 6L6’s.
Fullerton type
This one was a pretty wild build. 2 separate amps (but sharing the power transformer). One amp is a Vox AC15 and the other a Fender Deluxe. Oh and did I mention there an effects loop for both!
M800+
Another custom build of the proven M800+ circuit.
M800+
Another custom build of the proven M800+ circuit.
Invasion MKII
Another custom build of the proven M800+ circuit and this one was 50W from a pair of EL34’s.
M800+ (Vidaluxe)
Was a custom build of the proven M800+ circuit and this one was 50W from a pair of EL34’s.
Atticus 5W
Single EL84 in the output stage. Was a custom build and think it absolutely nailed it. Still modestly loud but again, the master volume works extremely well and sounds good at VERY low levels.
M800+
The proven M800+ circuit but with a pair of EL34’s run very consevatively. Hence, the lower power output. A winner!
Sunset 22
A unique custom build, and DNA is from the Bogner Ecstasy (XTC). Red and Blue channels. I have to get around to building another one of these as is exceeded my expectations. About 22W from a pair of 6V6’s
Duophonic KT66
Custom build using a single KT66 in the output stage for about 10W output. One channel is Fender 5F2-A and the other a JTM (Bassman). Master volume, master bright.
Duophonic 6V6
Another proven design. 20W from a pair of 6V6’s. One input but there is the ability to blend the channels together. I love this aesthetic – white cab, black corners, black front, white faceplate. Both channels are world class and complement each other nicely.
M800+ EL34
Another absolutely proven design. I ended up adding a loop to this one. 38W from a pair of EL34’s. I have to say I am leaning toward excluding the Depth control that has been on many of my amps. Looking back – I NEVER used it. But it will remain as an option on custom builds.
Atticus EL34
This design is PROVEN. This is a channel switcher, and both are world class. Has a loop. 38W. What is interesting is that many people buy this amp with the L channel as somewhat of an afterthought, but then they are WOWED by it.
Corona 6L6
Fender Blackface cleans but SO MUCH MORE. Fantastic amp.
Goodbye, Beautiful
A custom verion of the Duophonic. 18W from a pair of EL84’s, separate inputs. No loop but a low power switch (down to about 5W)
Doxy
A custom build with a quad of EL34’s in the output stage for about 100W. This is a version of the M-Class M800+. World class. You can see it sitting on a Friedman BE100, and I prefer the Doxy. Just more refined sounding.
Healer
A custom build with a pair of EL34’s in the output stage for about 35W. Loop, tube recto, separate inputs, H channel is Asheville and L channel is a McClane. This green tolex is quite nice!
The Atticus has been built with many different output stages and this one uses a pair of EL84’s for about 18W. But this is not your everyday EL84 amp. This amp uses fixed bias (not cathode bias) and feedback is crucial to elevate the performance to a truly exceptional level.
This preamp is in a league of it’s own. DNA from a SLO100, but more useful control with the bright pot and second gain control. It CAN get back into JCM type tones, something the original is not capable of.
