CUSTOM AMP OPTIONS
The menu for your custom Phaez Amp has just gotten a bit simpler
The base model for the custom is a 2 channel amp with the ability to blend the 2 channels. The standard output stage will be 25W from a pair of EL34’s. The core charge starting point for this is US$555. That is the functional amp chassis, excluding tubes, head cab, and shipping. High quality NKK power/standby switches, and excellent Neutrik input and output jacks. The wiring is a combination of PCB for the power/bias supply and point to point. Excellent Hammond output transformers and superb toroidal power transformers are used.
The base “starting point” includes my superb sounding effects loop.
For the DIY’ers, just get the bare chassis amp, and build your own head cab, supply your own tubes.
Now you decide what 2 channels you want. Can be any pair of the following:
(in alphabetical order)
AFD – all new for spring 2025. High gain based on my Crocodile circuit, and can get voiced pretty bright. Listen to the Sweet Child O’ Mine – that is neck pickup with the tone pot rolled off. You KNOW the amp has to be bright with that resulting tone.
ASHEVILLE – high gain DNA from the Soldano SLO100.
CORONA – has been in the Phaez lineup for a LONG time, tried and true Fender Blackface style
HIWATT – pre section from the DR103/504 with it’s wonderful “hi-fi” tonestack
JTM/BASSMAN – a cleanish option, can be nice complement to any other channel
JUBE – gets it’s DNA from the Silver Jubilee 2555X amp and it’s attractive LED clipping circuit. Nice high gain circuit.
McCLANE – this pre section gets it’s DNA from the Trainwreck Express. Clean to mean! Kind of a cross between and Fender Blackface and a JCM800 if that makes any sense.
ROCKER – derived from the Orange Rockerverb. Hi Gain nice and creamy, broadly similar to the Asheville (SLO)
SLP– derived from the M800+ which is classic Marshal bite and crunch. I spent a lot of time tweaking this mid gain circuit. Similar to the JEL-20 and JEL-50. The BEST hot rodded Marshall circuit.
SUNSET– it is derived from the Bogner Ecstasy and you have your choice of the blue channel (mid crunch) or red channel (more gain)
VOX– pre section from the AC30/AC15, very interactive tonestack.
So now have chosen your 2 preamp channels and 25W is suitable. What is next?
(If you want a 40W version, either EL34 or 6L6, add $55)
I have been asked about a 50W version – add US$115 for impressive 50W iron.
Do you want is a channel switcher via footswitch? Add $80 for that option. Relays are used, and the channel switching works extremely well.
What are going to do about a head cab? I should always have some available to purchase, contact me. I will eventually get a gallery up which will show current head cabs.
Tubes – Supply your own, but I can supply tubes for whatever they cost me.
I have been referring to the standard output stage as a 25W EL34, but for the same price an output section based on a pair or either EL84′, 6V6’s, or 6L6’s is possible.
Contact me for 50W or 100W versions (or maybe some other output section)
Get the chassis only version, or get the complete amp
Prices seem TOO reasonable? I do this for the love of it, not the money.
SL/PLEXI/1959/SLP
I recently built a custom amp for a guy and I have to say to really impressed me. What was it? A Superlead/Plexi type amp but with a pair of EL34’s run at lower voltage, a master volume, and a single input that is equal to a jumpered regular Plexi. I am going to be building another one soon, and the PP EL34’s and iron choice will result in a power output of about 25W. Keep in mind Superlead/Plexi/1959 is not a high gain circuit!
Here are a few examples for this “SL” type circuit.
Canadian customers please contact me for pricing
McClane
Fantastic single channel EL84 amp with the circuit DNA , feel and vibe, responsiveness akin the Trainwreck Express. I have built a lot of Express clones in the past, and they are a great sounding amp, but somewhat limited. The McClane is very well thought out and I know I spent a LOT more time on this circuit than KF did on the original.
McClane 4XEL84
$720 + $50 (loop) +$80 (4XEL84) = US$850
Barracuda
Channel switcher, and if you are ordering a custom version, you are have your choice for each channel. The default H channel is a cross between the M800+/Asheville and the L channel is Corona (Fender Blackface/Twin)
L channel different options avail but typically is my Corona
H Channel currently a cross between the M800+ and Asheville
Faceplate Colours: Typically black, white, silver, gold, but other colours might be available.
Custom name: Sure! You are ordering a custom amp, why not a custom name. The default names for the 2 channel amps are Duophonic for the blendable and Barracuda for the channel switcher.
A different head cab design from our standard cab is a Sourmash. Bob at Sourmash does wonderful work and has done many cabs for Phaez amplifiers.
What is the cost for a Sourmash head instead of our regular one? Consider Sourmash in FL. You will have to drill the holes in the bottom to mount the amp, as I will be sending you the chassis.
